Introduction and Work :D



         Hello, to those who are reading this! You may not know me, but I would like to connect with those who would like to! My name is Serenity Hernandez. I am currently a junior ungraduate at Toledo University, Majoring in Graphic and Interactive Design with a Minor in Marketing!

    Graphic Design has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, which was actually my sophomore year of high school. My high school provided a Graphic Design course for sophomores to seniors, which caught the eye of many due to its being "easy" and "chill". Which was indeed my mindset as well.. guilty. Once I started progressing in the class, my love and desire for it grew, especially with the inspiration and motivation from my teacher, Sherry Walker. Since my sophomore year, I have stayed in Graphic Design, developing and exploring my creativity. What drew me closer to graphic design as a future career was that, as I was designing, it made others happy. I designed for friends, family, and within my school. It made them happy in which made me happy that I was able to create that joy with my creativity.

    My goal going towards Graphic Design is to continue to bring that joy to others through my designs. I want to continue to explore many ways through designing and expanding my creativity, no matter where I go. Gaining experience and learning to allow myself to grow and use the outcome to become the best designer I can be. I know that if I trust in the Lord, he will provide those ways and opportunities for me in his timing, so I'm taking anything I do and learn as learning experiences to grow til then.

       According to the article “ Pop, subcultures and the future of graphic design: an interview with Experimental Jetset”. What sparked an interest while reading this article was that an interest they all shared led them to where they are now. Post-Punk was a gateway and inspiration for their work now. Without Post-Punk, they wouldn't have had the courage to go to art school and be involved with graphic design.      That section stood out to me the most, especially since I feel I had an entry way through graphic design and can relate to how much an interest can change your whole life and lead you somewhere you never thought you would be.   A few more Icons we came up with in our group! We can develop a style with thicker outlines and a more straightforward approach. We also wanted to come up with a sign design, which is the red icons on the top. Our inspiration for these designs was the safety data sheets to guide survivors through the apocalypse.

Artist Websites

Here are 3 artist websites that caught my eye! What's interesting is that each one is obviously a different style, but each one truly showcases the artist's style through their website, not just through their work. Each one presents themselves and their work very well, and it's also playful. Compared to other websites I checked out, these caught my eye more and hooked me into looking more into who they are and what kind of art they present. That is a goal for my website as well, to be professional yet playful, to show more of my personality to my viewers through my designs.  The one that mainly caught my eye the most was David Shrigley. I enjoyed his creativity put into it and how he didn’t overwhelm it with designs as well.
