Assignment 2

Image
Hailey, Lilly, and I created a TikTok for assignment 2! We wanted to truly capture the art campus and the students within it! I genuinely enjoy creating these videos with them and being able to meet and talk to more students within the building.  A link will be provided for our Tiktok Page with our videos! (they kept showing unavailable when posted here) @ut_artstudentsociety

Hello World! Processing

From watching " Hello World! Processing!" documentary, I really liked how Marius Watz described coding as a language you have to describe ideas in, for the computer to execute them. That communicating to a computer this way needs to be very clear and specific in order to accomplish your desired idea.  He also mentions that code can look very inhuman or frustrating but it has a sense of elegance that comes from it and being able to communicate clearly and specifically through it. An interesting statement that was said in the TED talk by Kevin Salvin and he mentions that it opens a new insight in contemporary general math that has been something we take and use in the world to something that starts to shape it. It was a well said statement towards coding especially since we are learning java script currently and learning the math that goes on between it. I really don't enjoy math but I can agree that it's something that is shaping the world we live in. Lastly, I like h...

Drawing

  let x = 20; let y = 20; let diameter = 600; function setup() {   createCanvas(1280, 720);   background(0, 0, 102);   noStroke(); } function draw() {   background(0, 0, 102);       fill(255);   ellipse(x, y, diameter, diameter);   fill(0, 51, 0);   rect(0, 670, 1280, 55);   fill(0, 51, 0);   triangle(0, 670, 200, 700, 80, 0);   fill(153, 76, 0);   triangle(1000, 1100, 400, 1000, 600, 500);      if (mouseIsPressed) {   fill(255, 178, 102);  } else {   fill(102, 53, 0);  } triangle(800, 1090, 400, 1000, 600, 600); }

Week 7

Image
These are the drawings for week 7! I created a few character illustration and a laptop . The other drawings I did were lyrics from a song I enjoy listening to. I currently use Spanish songs to improve my Spanish and I like to try to translate each line as practice!  The song I was listening to was a Spanish worship song called Derramo El Perfume and it refers to seeking God's presence in a room and there is no place that compares. I have a personal connection with this song and I just wrote some of the lyrics. As for the characters I just doodled and those were the outcomes! I think the bottom middle is a bit funny hehe! As for the cat illustration, I started just with the face because I thought it was very cute and then it became just cute cat figure. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the drawings I did this week! I can't wait to post more in week 8!

WEEK 6

Image
For week 6 drawings, I created a variety of illustrations such as a shovel, snoopy box cutter, easter basket plus eggs, breakfast foods, earths, a jar, and a broken city. Each of them are quite different but out of all of them I think I like the breakfast foods one! I would like to pull it into illustrator and make it into a cozy/comfy and relaxed design! It’s so cute and fun! These were very random and I just drew the very first thing that popped into my head. I think this approach with my daily drawing is the best and I'm starting to like the drawing I like more each day. The shovel one was very random.. I was trying to create a hot air balloon and it started to not look like one so I went with the closet thing. It kinda works but definitely not my favorite.

Assignment 2 Feedback

I think this project was a good opportunity to learn more about coding and being able to expand my creativity! I created a maze that is in the style of a scrapbook and it was a really fun and unique way to express myself and my life. I did 3 sections that lead to Chicago, China, then Back Home. I expanded more pages within those just going more in detail about those and what I experienced.  The feedback I received was helpful and encouraging! My site didn't work out as I expected which was a bit upsetting, especially since my links were correctly linking to some of the pages but I do know it's a work in progress. I will definitely go back and fix what I can so it can appear how I desire and it can be usable for users who are going through it.  I wasn't able to get too much feedback since it was towards the end so it was a bit rushed but I feel like all I really need to focus on is my sizing of my pages and just adjusting my div links as well. I think my design aspects we...

BioHarzard

For the BioHazard reading, it shows that skull symbols are supposed to be seen as scary but as time went on it, now it is used for entertainment rather than danger. It can be difficult to create a logo that can last for a long time with the same meaning especially if it can have a variety of correlation to that specific logo. As for more danger or hazard logos, this can be even more difficult because people may not take them as seriously as they appear due to the fact of the meaning slowly going away from danger.  How I see it as well, especially for these danger/hazard symbols, the meaning still carries through even if it's not taken more seriously for certain people but I still think it can carry out what it needs. Changing these symbols too much can make it confusing for those approaching it and not being able to understand what kind of danger or hazard they are going into. Overall, I can understand why the symbols won't be able to last forever and how it’s been taken more...

Week 5

Image
As I finished the alphabet for my daily drawings V-Z and then 2 more random drawings I did. It was a good practice with the alphabet and learning a variety of different styles of fonts and designs for each letter. I'm not a 100% what I am doing next but I would like to do another series like this! I would also like to do random drawings that come into my head.  As for the drawings I did, I feel like they aren't the best.. I do like the vase one, I had a better vision for it but it was still fun to do. The X-ray was a nice one to do as well and I think it would be fun to incorporate the drawing I did into another of my works. I wish the yarn came out a bit better but the vision is definitely there! Overall, It was a fun way to explore with the different letters of the alphabet and exploring creative ways to design them as well. I think going back to something and putting them into illustrator will be fun to be able to play with them more and the designs. As for ideas for the ...

Interdisciplinary Interaction Design

When reading about Branching and Nodes, my thought immediately went to a game called The Walking Dead: A Telltale Game. It is a game that uses the same concept, allowing users to choose their path through the game and make choices. Depending on your choices, it could lead to a variety of different outcomes. This technique allows players to be more involved in the storyline in which connects them with the game as if they are in it themselves.      Displaying controls is common in action games, where players have greater control over their actions. For example, Valorant is a tactical first-person shooter that allows players to customize a variety of controls to suit their preferred playstyle. Many players continue to advance within the game, and once they do, the control panels are introduced, making the game slightly more challenging and exciting. Faux choice is another great example of The Walking Dead: A Telltale Game. For example, you can choose from two...

Group Collaboration Assignment 2

For this project, I am in a group with Lilly and Hailey! We are going to be creating a TikTok with a series of videos focusing on students, faculty, and our art campus to help raise awareness of the art campus we have. Our target with this is to help more of Toledo University, as well as people in general, to realize the wonderful campus we have and the access for students to our services, which we also provide within our campus. We also would like to showcase the amazing students we have here, as well as to present their work, so it could also help with connection and getting their work out there. Our plan is to showcase these things with unique video editing and bring a sense of welcoming and comfort through our videos. We each take our certain tasks, whether it be recording, editing, or designing for our page. We are each willing to take on anything that is needed to make this reach out and connect to our audience.

The Garden of Forking Paths

The story mentions a labyrinth, which is a passageway or paths that are arranged, making it difficult to find one's way around. The forking of paths refers to the idea of time when someone makes a decision. It sets on a variety of different possible futures. In which we are creating a story through our assignment, making a variety of possibilities to allow user to choose their own path through our website page.  As for media art or an artist in general, this story allows you to think about the possibilities and creativity put into their works. Our art decision is crucial to how you present yourself, as it reflects on you as the artist. To think about what you can add or how you can make your creation improve more, to allow yourself to keep creating and generating ideas. Many professors have told me there is always something to improve and not to be stuck on what you have; if you have an idea, then do it.
